Book ships in the Summer
Inherit the Road is the story of Jackson Zucchetti, a young man from Orange, Connecticut who inherits a sum of money from a grandmother he barely knew and uses it to escape the house he grew up in. Raised under the hand of an abusive father and a mother who couldn't leave, Jackson boards a cargo ship to Dublin and points himself at Europe with a red backpack and no particular plan. A Welsh uncle. A Jung book. A motorcycle purchased in Oxford. A year of roads and people and mountains and cities that change him incrementally and completely.
The second half traces Jackson's return to America and his slow arrival at himself. New York. Los Angeles. The American west. A mountaineer in Wyoming who teaches him that the wilderness exists to send you back to the world of people better equipped to be in it. Seattle and the mountains and the road finally going quiet. Jackson arrives, without fanfare, at the thing the road had been pointing toward the whole time.
